excel scatter plot change color based on value

Rather than making the different points along one line be different colors, is there a way that I can use conditional formatting to make the different lines on the chart be different colors? I want to customize the background of the scatter plot as a function of the data points itself, i.e., the X and Y extents of the coloured rectangles should be in my control.
